Holidays, without the "explosion" of a year ago/ Fewer fireworks than last year, but December remains crucial

According to INSTAT, the import of pyrotechnic devices into the country continues to follow a clear seasonal cycle, mainly linked to the end-of-year holidays. Official data show that the highest flows of imports are recorded in the months of November and December, with the absolute peak in December, a period that coincides with the New Year celebrations and the massive use of fireworks.
During the rest of the year, imports remain significantly lower, with a slight increase in the summer months, mainly in June and July. This is related to tourist activities, festive events and the wedding season, but without reaching the year-end levels, which remain dominant in both indicators, both in weight and value.
The figures show that in total, that is, for the period January-November, the year 2025 marks fewer imports of pyrotechnic devices compared to 2024. From 527 million lek in 2024, the value is recorded at 338 million lek. The decrease is evident in both the imported quantity and the monetary value, indicating a more limited supply of the domestic market during this year. Even if we refer to the month of November of this year, we see that the value is lower than in the same month of last year. The annual decrease is estimated at 42%
This trend may suggest that lower fireworks use is expected for this year's holidays compared to last year. The decrease in imports may be related to tighter controls on the use of pyrotechnics, changes in demand, or the use of leftover stock from last year.
However, although declining, December remains the key period for the supply of pyrotechnics, confirming that fireworks continue to be an integral part of New Year's celebrations in the country.
