Foreign businessmen "break" partnerships with Albanians/ 100%

Joint ventures between Albanians and foreigners appear to be losing ground in the Albanian economy, while businesses with full foreign ownership continue to grow. This is evidenced by the latest data from the Institute of Statistics on legal units by ownership for the period 2022-2024.

The data shows that the number of joint ventures (Albanian and foreign) has been continuously decreasing over the last three years. In 2022, there were 1,655 such enterprises, while in 2023 this number dropped to 1,455. The decline continued in 2024, where joint ventures reached 1,421, confirming a steady contraction trend.

Unlike this category, 100% foreign-owned businesses have followed an upward trajectory. In 2022, their number was 4,934, while in 2023 it increased to 5,483. The growth continued during 2024, when enterprises with full foreign ownership reached 5,586.

Overall, the figures show that the presence of foreign capital in the economy is not declining, but the form of its organization is changing. Foreigners seem to increasingly prefer to operate with full ownership, while interest in partnerships with local entrepreneurs is gradually weakening.

In 2024, enterprises originating from European Union countries will account for an average of 60.7% of foreign and joint ventures, while Western Balkan countries represent 11.9% of these enterprises.
