Malaj meets with tourism sector businesses in Berat - Focus on real wage

The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, accompanied by the Director General of Taxes, Ilir Binaj, held a meeting with entities operating in the tourism sector in the city of Berat. The focus of this meeting was the discussion on the problems and challenges faced by these entities during the exercise of their activity, the cooperation with the Tax Administration and the progress of the implementation of the operational plan for the tourism sector in the Berat region.

In his discussion, Minister Malaj pointed out the impact of the tourism sector and related sectors on the national economy and the importance of its real formalization. In this regard, the Minister said that it is essential to increase the declaration of real wages and improve the level of current wages, which translates into increased welfare for employees and more security for their future, as well as increasing fiscal transparency and real declaration of business turnover.

Referring to the city of Berat, Mr. Malaj said that it is a success story in the development of tourism throughout the year, however, greater commitment is needed to guarantee fair competition, increase the quality of services and improve the level of salaries.

According to data, 746 taxpayers operate in the tourism sector in Berat, of which only 50 are VAT registered, while the contribution of this sector to VAT constitutes about 2.3% of total economic activity, with a value of about 16.5 million lek. The number of employees in this sector has increased by 11%, however, there is still a need and space for improving the salary structure and formalizing labor relations.

As the tourist season approaches, it is essential to increase commitment to guarantee fair competition and the long-term sustainability of the sector. Formalizing the activity and improving standards are key to increasing confidence and economic development.

The meeting took the form of an open discussion, where business representatives shared their concerns and suggestions for more support, access to a qualified workforce, and policies that promote the sustainable development of tourism in the region.
