Priority mountain development areas/ From Kruja to Maliq e Vora, new investment

The Albanian government has taken an important step towards the economic and tourist development of the country’s mountainous areas with the approval of priority areas for development under the “Mountain Package.” This decision is expected to bring increased investment, more jobs and the promotion of sustainable tourism in the country’s rural and mountainous areas.

In the Municipality of Kruja, the government has declared five priority development areas, covering large territories from Barkanesh to Mali i Kruja and Bubq, with thousands of hectares of land targeted for agrotourism, economic and industrial development. These areas have been identified with official mapping and are reported as key points of local development potential.

In the Municipality of Maliq, ten priority areas have been identified, including villages such as Kolanec, Libonik, Vreshtas and Pojan — also with significant land areas that can be used for agrotourism, nature tourism and rural development activities.

The Municipality of Vora has also taken the decision to declare six priority development zones, including the areas of Gërdec, Marikaj, Kuçi and Preza — with the aim of promoting economic development in this territory beyond traditional urban functions.

Why are these decisions important?

The decisions are part of Law No. 20/2025 "On the Mountain Package", which aims to create conditions for sustainable investments, especially in mountainous areas that have historically been less developed.

Priority areas will serve as spaces where local and foreign investors can create businesses in sectors such as agritourism, rural production, light industry, and tourist services.

These measures also aim to improve living conditions in mountainous areas, strengthening the local economy and creating new employment opportunities.
