Energy licensees do not pay their dues/ Regulatory Authority initiates

The Energy Regulatory Authority has initiated procedures for the revocation of licenses against entities that have not paid regulatory payments to this institution. According to the applicable legislation, this is the most serious measure in case of violation of this obligation, while the decisions affect at least 8 licenses. The entities against which the procedure for the revocation of licenses has been initiated have the right to present their positions in writing within 30 days from the date of notification. Before reaching the penalties of license revocation, the applicable legislation determines the penalty of a fine of up to 3 percent of the licensee's previous year's income. Also, the law gives the ERE the right to apply a late payment interest on the value of the regulatory payment, at the rate of 0.2% of the daily turnover for each day of delay in its payment.

However, this is not the final step for revocation, as the experience of previous years has shown that after the initiation of procedures by the ERE, the entities have begun to liquidate their liabilities, which has led to "forgiveness" by the Entity.

This department aimed to collect around 393 million lek from regulatory payments for 2025 from licensed entities in the electricity and natural gas sector. Meanwhile, compared to a year ago, there are over 24 million lek in additional income, given that last year this value reached around 369 million lek. The increasing trend in income has been going on for several years, which continues, reflecting the increase in profits of companies operating in the electricity market, as well as the increase in the number of licensees in this sector.
