Parliamentary elections on May 11, 2025? - The proposal of the CEC and SP. The decree of the President of the Republic is awaited
The parliamentary elections in Albania can most likely take place on May 11, 2025. At least this date has been proposed by the head of the Central Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, to the President of the Republic. The same proposal was made by the representatives of the Socialist Party, who held a meeting with the head of state.
In a post on social networks after the meeting with President Bajram Begaj, Celibashi writes that "In today's meeting with the President of the Republic, Mr. Bajram Begaj, I proposed May 11, 2025 as the optimal date for holding parliamentary elections. This proposed date ensures: More time for the preparation of the electoral administration and more effective organization of the vote of Albanians from abroad.
According to Celibashi, the Central Election Commission remains committed to realizing a transparent and comprehensive electoral process, which guarantees the participation of all legal voters.
Earlier last week, the representatives of the small parliamentary parties proposed to the Head of State the date May 4, which according to them is more appropriate to hold the elections for the Assembly of Albania.
The decree of the President of the Republic to announce the official date of the elections is now awaited.
