Partial local elections in 5 municipalities, CEC: Only 18.45% of voters voted

In 5 municipalities of the country, 13 candidates competed to take their leadership. In Vlora, Berat, Mat, Cërrik and Tepelena out of 334,539 thousand citizens with the right to vote, according to CEC data by 18:00, only 50,469 citizens exercised their right to vote, or 18.45% of the voters. The municipality with the highest turnout was Mat with 39.36%, and the municipality with the lowest turnout was Vlora with 12.54%. In the other 3 municipalities, this turnout was reported, Tepelena 34.63%, Cërrik 25%, Berat 19.98%.

For the first time, the CEC has also reflected age group data, where it is noted that the most interested in participating in the vote were those aged 65 and over. The interest of young people was very low.

The voting process was smooth, with sporadic problems. Only 19% of the centers opened with a slight delay, while in 3 VCs there were problems with the lack of DP commissioners, but the situation was resolved. Electronic identification was applied in all centers.

The mandate of the new mayors will be only one and a half years, until local elections are held in the spring of 2027.
