Choosing an energy supplier/ Parliament, ERE: Promote the price comparison

"The Energy Regulatory Authority should develop promotional campaigns for the functioning of the Energy Price Comparison Platform in the free market". The request comes from the Parliament through the Resolution adopted a few days ago, where, among other things, it is assessed that the adoption of the relevant acts for establishing the obligation to use this platform is an important step, which aims to ensure transparency and competition in the market, while protecting the interests of consumers.

With the approval of these acts, it was determined that all electricity suppliers have the obligation to publish their offers on the Price Comparison Platform, established by the Energy Regulatory Authority. However, despite this, currently only 7 of them have become part of the platform, although in total ERE has licensed 38 companies for this service. In total, there are 18 published offers, as the companies have divided them according to the voltage level to which the businesses that can contract suppliers are connected.

The ERE platform was established in the framework of the liberalization of the electricity market, to enable customers to obtain information regarding the prices of electricity offered by different suppliers. Its main purpose is precisely to help customers choose their electricity supplier in a transparent manner, enabling them to compare possible offers from retail electricity suppliers.

The Energy Regulatory Authority's obligation to suppliers came after the expansion of the liberalized energy market with around 2,600 businesses connected to the 10 kV voltage, which from January 1 of this year entered the free energy market, having the obligation to choose their own supplier. This expansion followed those of previous years with the liberalization of businesses connected to the 35 and 20 kV voltage. Meanwhile, next year, customers connected to the 6 kV voltage will also enter the free market.
