Trade deficit in Kosovo deepens further/ Over 21%, about 100 million euros more

Data from the Foreign Trade of Goods in Kosovo show that in September 2025, a trade deficit of 21.2% was recorded compared to the same period in 2024. The deficit reached the value of 520.5 million euros, compared to 429.4 million euros last year.

According to data from the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), exports cover imports by only 14.1%. Exports of goods in September 2025 were 85.8 million euros, while imports were 606.2 million euros. This reflects an increase of 10.7% for shipments and an expansion of 19.6% for imports, compared to the same period in 2024.

The main groups of sales abroad consist of basic metals (19.1%), plastics and rubber (12.5%), and mineral products with 12.4%. While the most imported goods were mineral products (14.6%), machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment (11.3%), etc.

Kosovo's exports to EU countries amounted to 28.0 million euros, or about 32.7% of the total, with an increase of 2.6%. The main partners for the export of goods to the EU are: Germany with 11.5%, Italy with 2.9% and the Netherlands (2.6%). Kosovo's imports from the bloc countries amounted to about 249 million euros, or 41.1% of the total, expanding by 17.3%. Germany ranked first with 12.7%, while Italy was second with 6.1%.

Meanwhile, in September, Kosovo's shipments to CEFTA countries reached 40.6 million euros, or 47.4% of the total value, with an increase of 21.4%. The main export partners from CEFTA countries are: Albania (21.4%), North Macedonia (11.0%), Serbia (8.4%). Meanwhile, imports from CEFTA countries in September 2025 reached 87.8 million euros, or 14.5% of the total.
