Seasonal employment, a "springboard" for final emigration -

Seasonal employment abroad is becoming more and more sought after by Albanian citizens every year, especially towards Germany.

Students, as well as unskilled workers, are taking advantage of the opportunities offered through short-term employment programs, while the demand for labor from European Union countries is increasing. But is it being seen as an opportunity to permanently transfer to emigration countries?

Hygerta Aruçi Specialist in Foreigners' Rights

"Seasonal employment has two categories. The first is seasonal employment of students who have a three-month period to come during their studies in Germany, and the second employment is short-term employment, when an individual is only given the opportunity for a certain amount of time, which can be a maximum of 8 months and both parties are unable to obtain a visa or residence permit directly from Germany. So they come only with the aim of seasonal employment in Germany. All the first cases so far have been successful, after getting to know Germany, the German system and culture, all of them have been applicants again at the German embassy in Tirana, being provided with a work visa, or in various other categories, and thus taking advantage of the opportunity to come and integrate and become part of the emigration to Germany."

But year after year, the requests to immigrate have increased, and on the other hand, the German state has also increased its quotas for workers. According to Aruç, this year they have reached 50,000 quotas for labor from the Western Balkans.

"We always have an increase. This is also noticeable in the aspect of opening quotas. We are talking from year to year, last year we had 25 thousand quotas only for unqualified individuals, and in the current year we are talking about a number of 50 thousand quotas. Germany is currently in urgent need of a mainly unqualified workforce, but not only that, and absolutely also the migration policies are totally favorable to enable the emigration and the arrival as quickly as possible of individuals who wish to come. Especially from the Western Balkans."
