EU seeks skilled workforce - Gonzato: Invest to be competitive! Manjani: Focus on skills

Albania's integration into the European Union, among other things, brings a key challenge, a human capital ready to face the European labor market but also to be competitive. For this reason, more attention is required from the government towards investing in education and human skills.
Silvio Gonzato, EU Ambassador to Albania
"Investing in human capital is key to increasing competitiveness. If Albania joins the European Union, it will also join a single market and investing in human capital is very important to be competitive. The Growth Plan has a dedicated pillar for human capital, facilitating the transition from studies to the labor market."
Meanwhile, the government has concluded that diplomas no longer guarantee success in the labor market, but that investments should be made in the skills of individuals.
Olta Manjani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Innovation
“One of the problems we are facing is the loss of skills. 27% of the workforce in Albania turns out to be overqualified. This shows that we are doing something wrong with education. In this case, we must insist on giving them skills and this is not just a matter of diplomas. We should not focus on diplomas and certificates, but we must give them the right skills and for this we are working by investing in vocational education. We have created a committee where businesses show what skills are required by the market and on the other hand we are doing our own analysis. “
The conference on the role of the Academy in human capital development in Albania brought together academics, renowned experts in the field, EU and government representatives, focusing on critical issues related to the workforce, challenges and interventions that need to be made.
