“We Achieved Transparency of the Media Ownership Structure” - AMA

The Chairperson of the Audiovisual Media Authority, Armela Krasniqi, participated in the 62nd meeting of the European Platform of Regulatory Entities, EPRA. At this meeting, she explained a very important regulatory process for the Albanian media market, carried out by the AMA, such as the Transparency of Media Ownership Structure and Direct and Indirect Beneficial Owners, as well as the study on the economic focus of the OSHMAs, beyond the media market.

According to Krasniqi, AMA has created and published a comprehensive Ownership Transparency Database, which is accessible through the institution’s official website. This database serves as a primary and up-to-date source, and contains detailed information on all licensed and authorized OSHMAs in Albania. It includes data on both legal entities and natural persons, extending transparency to the full identification of ultimate beneficial owners. Through the publication of this information, AMA ensures that the ownership structures of all OSHMAs are fully transparent and traceable, thus strengthening public trust and regulatory oversight.

The data included in the Ownership Transparency database is organized into 5 main categories of OSHMAs, reflecting the diversity of operators active in the Albanian media market and includes cable operators, providers, repeaters, audio and audiovisual entities. This integrated system enables AMA to have a dynamic and transparent register of ownership structures, which reflects in real time the changes in the audiovisual market.

In addition, AMA has already conducted a detailed study on the economic investments of OSHMAs, beyond the media market. As part of its market monitoring, AMA has analyzed the investments of contributors of audio and audiovisual operators in various branches of the industry. This analysis transparently reflects their involvement in economic activities beyond the media field, providing a broader picture of the distribution of capital in the economy. This detailed observation is not only intended to show the scope of investors' interests, but above all, to strengthen transparency in the media field. These classifications include a number of economic branches such as: agriculture, forestry and fishing, extractive and processing industries, transport, etc.
