The government approves the travel information transmission fee/ 200 lek per

The government has approved a new decision that establishes the fee for the transmission of travel information, which will be paid by transport companies operating in the country.

According to the decision of the Council of Ministers, the fee will be 200 lek per passenger during the first year of implementation. After this period, the fee value will be reviewed every three years, depending on the real costs of the service.

This fee is the payment made by transport companies for the use of the system that automatically sends travel information to the Albanian authorities, for security and border control reasons. The revenue collected from this fee will be used for the maintenance of the systems that process travel information, including technological equipment, data security and technical support.

But how does this payment work?

Air, land and sea transport companies will report every month the number of passengers they have traveled. Based on this reporting, they will be calculated and invoiced the relevant fee. Payment must be made within 30 days, while in case of delay, penalties will be applied according to the law.

According to the VKM, children under 2 years old without a reserved seat, humanitarian trips approved by the state, and transportation carried out by state structures for security or emergency missions are exempt from the payment.

Also, companies will not be penalized if the delay is due to technical reasons or force majeure, such as natural disasters or cyber attacks. The decision charges the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Police with its implementation and will enter into force upon publication in the Official Gazette.
