"Votes will be counted with artificial intelligence" - Celibashi: We will test it on November 9, but it will not replace the manual procedure

The counting, evaluation of ballots and the release of results in the mayoral by-elections on November 9 will be done through artificial intelligence. Everything was announced by the chief commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi, during the regional conference on the Digitalization of Electoral Processes, but according to him, for the moment this method will only be tested.
"On November 9 of this year, partial elections for mayors of several municipalities in the country will be held. The CEC staff is working to apply, for the first time, the use of AI in counting and evaluating ballots and in issuing results. This project will serve as a test and, for the time being, will not replace the manual procedure for counting and evaluating votes, which remains the official method of reference," said Celibashi.
He also focused on the digitalization of other processes, such as identification or electronic voting, which according to him have increased the efficiency in the administration of electoral processes. Meanwhile, the European Union Ambassador to our country Silvio Gonzato emphasized the importance of digitalization processes in terms of transparency and democratic electoral processes.
Meanwhile, during the conference, the necessity for electoral authorities to develop cooperative mechanisms among European authorities to respond to digital threats that may arise in this direction was emphasized. The conference was organized by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), in cooperation with the Central Election Commission of Albania.
