Greece, 153 million euros for farmers - EU distributes subsidies to strengthen the agricultural sector
The Greek Agricultural Payments Authority (OPEKEPE) has distributed 153 million euros in agricultural aid from the European Union since September, the Ministry of Rural Development announced.
The latest amount covers three categories of direct payments, while funds for eight other categories are scheduled to be disbursed by the end of October.
Over 61 million euros will be transferred to the bank accounts of 157,737 farmers. Meanwhile, 25,138 applications, representing about 13.7% of the total, are still in the process of further review.
Since September, around 90 million euros have also been paid through various measures of the Rural Development Program, bringing the total aid distributed to 153 million euros.
At the same time, the government is implementing new measures to support farmers. They aim to reduce production costs and help livestock farmers affected by animal diseases, including cases of mass slaughter due to infections.
The ministry stated that concrete relief is being offered to farmers, while simultaneously guaranteeing transparency and compliance with EU and state rules.
The upcoming payments include 58 million euros for food aid and damages, 80 million euros for reforestation, and 178 million euros in compensation related to last year's bad weather.
