Flood prevention in homes and businesses - 154.7 million lek are invested for the reconstruction of the Vlora hydroelectric dam

The Municipality of Vlora has announced the opening of the tender for the reconstruction of the Vlora hydroelectric dam. The limit fund made available is 154 million and 687 thousand lekë.
Referring to the document at the Public Procurement Agency, through the completion of the hydrovor with new submersible pumps and the existing ones, the hydrovor's conveying capacity will be increased, in order to ensure that water levels in the Vlora city water canal are maintained at levels below the flood levels of the city's homes.
Also, water blocking gates will be built at the entrance to the dam, and the necessary works for their implementation and all the systematization will be carried out throughout the dam's territory.
Meanwhile, the existing hydropower plant has pumps in working condition, but they cannot cope with the water flows carried by the Vlora city water canal. The malfunction of the pumps causes the canal water flows to flood the neighborhoods of the city of Vlora in the northern area of the city, even with minimal rainfall, causing significant damage to homes and businesses.
On the other hand, at the entrance to the hydrovor rooms there are waste reception grates, which are filled with waste accumulated over the years from the canal flows, and are corroded by corrosion and need to be replaced with new ones. In the hydrovor, there is no fence around its territory, the cabin and the exit basin, which poses a risk to passers-by or even to the hydrovor personnel themselves.
Likewise, new pumps will be installed; a platform will be built for the installation of gates in the pump entrance rooms at the hydropower plant, the construction of metal grates for receiving waste, and the installation of protective railings, the document states.
