Albania-Kosovo energy market - Volumes in ALPEX reached 1.25 mln mWh. Average price, 112 euro/mWh
The merger of the Albania-Kosovo energy markets from February 2024 increased the volumes traded on the Albanian Electricity Exchange, ALPEX.
According to data processed by TV SCAN, during the past year, a total of about 1.25 million mWh of energy was traded through this instrument.
Nearly 55% of this amount belongs to the bidding area of Albania, while the rest to Kosovo, showing almost equal volumes of energy for the two countries.
This is because the unification of the markets was marked in February, which means that the data for Kosovo only includes the period February - December. At the same time, the number of listed companies from the neighboring country is much lower than that of companies from Albania.
As for the average price at which energy is traded, it ranges from 61.04 euros/mWh, which is the lowest price recorded in April, to 180 euros/mWh, which is the highest recorded in November. The average price for the 12-month period is estimated at around 112 euros/mWh.
The Albanian Electricity Exchange, ALPEX, began operations on April 11, 2023, as its operation presents a number of advantages related to competitive prices, as well as providing a transparent price signal for energy investments.
The challenge, however, remains increasing the volumes traded through this instrument.
