Super capacities of power plants - Approvals of projects to connect to the grid reach 3535 MW, ERE: Investments are needed
The number of power plants seeking to connect to the transmission network has increased significantly, with official data indicating tens of thousands of MW that have received approval for installation, increasing the need for investments to integrate them into the system.
According to data from the Energy Regulatory Authority, processed by TV SCAN, there are 14 power plants, with an installed capacity of around 430 MW, that have signed connection agreements until 2024 and are expected to be energized during 2025-2026.
However, the number of power plants that received a preliminary opinion in the transmission system or a re-approval in principle for connection to the transmission system during 2024 is significantly higher. According to official data, there are a total of 29 plants, with a total designed power of 3105 MW.
This projected amount is considerable, considering that our country currently has a total generation capacity connected to the transmission network of around 2679 MW.
Meanwhile, given the fact that a considerable number of electricity sources are expected to be built and connected to the transmission system, the Energy Regulatory Authority emphasizes the need for more dynamic development and investments to integrate these sources into the Albanian electricity system in the coming years.
