How is artificial intelligence used in healthcare? - Saraçi: It has a high cost, but it helps us in our daily work

Artificial intelligence is increasingly gaining ground in the healthcare system, changing the way patients are diagnosed and treated. Radiologist Blerina Saraçi shares her daily experience, while also answering the question of whether Artificial Intelligence will replace doctors.
"I am a radiologist and we are the specialty most sensitive to new developments in AI. We have begun to implement some of what it offers as innovations that help us in our daily work and of course other innovations will continue to be implemented. It will be a great help, but it does not replace doctors. To do a better job and in a shorter time, artificial intelligence helps significantly ," said Saraçi.
The use of artificial intelligence is not only a matter of technology, but also of investment. Advanced image processing systems, software licenses and integrated devices have a significant cost. Saraçi says that these are costs that must be borne.
"Implementation has already begun, in the way we prepare, process the images, how we achieve the final image. Of course, there is a relatively high cost, but these are budgets that must be met for the quality of examinations and they have begun to be implemented," the doctor said.
But what are the areas where technology is gaining the most ground?
"It will be implemented in all areas, from family medicine, with the way patients are organized, to surgery with robotics and everything. AI is now inevitable in all areas of operation."
Training doctors and technical staff will be as important as the investment in equipment and software itself, as the use of artificial intelligence requires new technological knowledge and the ability to correctly interpret the results it provides. If the system does not invest in parallel in professional training and continuous updating, the risk is that the technology will be present, but not used to its full potential.
