Albanians "cannot part" with coffee - They set a new record, 7 thousand tons "served" in just 9 months

Coffee and tobacco are part of the daily routine of Albanians, as bars have for years become not only places for conversation, but also an "institution" for business meetings.
But what is noticeable is that the consumption trend of these two excise products has resulted in an increase throughout this year.
And how much was consumed this year? Official figures from the Ministry of Finance show that by September 7,027 tons of coffee had been imported and consumed, the highest amount consumed in at least the last 5 years for the same period. While in September alone, 852 tons were discarded for consumption.
The same trend has been with cigarettes. In the first 9 months, 2,568 tons of cigarettes were imported, recording the highest quantity since 2020. And it seems that Albanian citizens are not giving up smoking despite the fact that every year the prices of packages are increasing significantly and occupy a significant part of the annual direct expenses for an individual smoker and on the other hand, cigarettes are consumed only in open environments.
Fuel consumption also reached record levels. But in this case, it was influenced by the influx of tourism into the country, which brought higher vehicle traffic, but also by the movements made by Albanian citizens themselves, trying to take advantage of weekends or holidays.
For the period January-September 2025, approximately 555 thousand tons of fuel were imported, or about 60.5 thousand tons compared to the previous year, making this a record figure.
As for beer, it is the only product among excise goods that has experienced a decline in imports, with 45.3 thousand tons going for consumption in 9 months out of 46.9 thousand tons imported in the same period a year ago.
