Albania, a key location for data centers, Salla: Renewable energy makes us

Renewable energy and competitive costs are turning Albania into a key location for building data centers. The new 100 million euro investment by Israeli company ADC aims to build a state-of-the-art data center. In an interview with Scan TV, IT expert Erlind Salla emphasized that Albania has several strategic advantages that make it attractive for investments of this level.

"Albania is known as a country with renewable energy, both hydro and solar. This is a key and strategic point that favors us in the international arena for the competition for the creation of data centers. The idea is that this investment at this level in Albania, which will use chips that are the best chips on the market, for processing and refining data for artificial intelligence, which are used by Google, Amazon, the largest leading companies in the market, will also be invested in Albania. The renewable energy that we have is a key factor, since these companies, data centers, require a very large amount of energy for their operation. And Albania is the perfect place, plus the land is cheaper, compared to Germany or France," says Salla.

Although data processing centers exist in the region, the project expected to be built in Albania represents another level of technology and capacity.

According to Salla: "It's like comparing a neighborhood market to a shopping mall. We will be in the region but also in Europe, for data processing and storage."

The construction of these centers is not only related to technological development, but also to digital security. Salla emphasizes that the new infrastructure and cooperation with leading companies in cybersecurity can significantly increase the country's defense capacities.

"Datacenters all over the world are victims of cyber attacks, but we will take into account that first of all, we are a NATO member country, and we have NATO protocols for data security, and secondly, we must take into account that Israeli companies are leaders in cybersecurity, and their arrival in Albania would greatly affect the growth of local capacities, for training but also for the employment of young experts in the field, so that they can move to another level for data protection. In the future, we will not need external consultancy, but will have affordable internal capacities to solve these problems," says Salla.

The investment is expected to bring not only new digital infrastructure, but also the development of the labor market in the technology and cybersecurity sector in Albania.
