Albania "calls" students from around the world - Higher Education

With the aim of attracting foreign students, the League of Universities “Gjon Durrësium” organized the “Higher Education 2030” forum. This forum was held following the Decision of the Council of Ministers on May 21 of this year, which facilitates the registration of foreign students in Albanian universities.

"I believe that the time has come to have an integrated internationalization strategy, a strategy that includes the aspect of promoting Albania as an academic destination. Today we have universities that have opened their branches in Albania. We also have the College of Europe, which organized its academic year for the first time on the Tirana campus ," said Minister Manastirliu.

This goal comes at a time when the number of domestic student enrollments in higher education is declining due to emigration.

According to data from the Institute of Statistics, in the last five years the number of enrollments in higher education has decreased by 8%.

Meanwhile, with the formation of the "Gjon Durrësium" League of Universities at the end of last year, the aim is to improve educational structures.

"I am convinced that the expectations are extraordinary. This idea was born around 2017, but it remained just an idea. And with this important forum we have given it life. We have been convinced by optimism that, by cooperating, we can do much more for teaching in higher education, such as internationalization or digitalization ," said the head of the board of "Gjon Durrësium".

In our country, for the academic year 2023–2024, the total number of foreign students enrolled in higher education accounted for about 2% of the total number of enrollments. A still low percentage, which is intended to be significantly increased through this forum.
