Albanians are not "separated" from coffee/ Imports of the product in May reached a historic record
At a time when global markets are facing numerous challenges, the import of the “Coffee, Tea and Spices” chapter to Albania has marked a historic record in value, while in weight it remains the fourth highest value ever recorded. This phenomenon clearly shows that Albanians have not strayed from their daily ritual, coffee, which remains an essential part of Albanian culture.
According to the latest data, the total value of imports in May of this year reached 739 million lekë, reflecting the strong and continuous demand for these products. This is the highest value since January 2005. The annual increase is estimated at 13%, compared to the same period last year, which is also the second highest value in years. What is also striking is the imported weight of almost 1 thousand tons, which indicates a considerable volume of consumption, a clear indication that Albanians do not easily part with the aroma of coffee, tea or spices.
In May 2025, the average price of coffee imports reached 673 lek per kilogram, marking a significant increase compared to May of last year, when it stood at 536 lek per kilogram. However, compared to the first months of 2025, such as March with 693 lek per kilogram and April 2024 with 701 lek per kilogram, a stable trend is observed, with prices remaining relatively high. This shows that, even though demand is increasing and imports in value have reached record highs, the price per kilogram of coffee remains within a range that reflects the interest in quality and stability in the market.
This positive trend shows more than just economic statistics: it is a reflection of the Albanian lifestyle, which despite economic challenges or global changes, continues to preserve its traditions. Coffee remains a daily ritual.
We emphasize that the price of coffee has experienced a significant increase in the global market recently. The main factors that have influenced this increase include unfavorable climatic conditions, increased demand, and trade uncertainty.
