This year, Albania will begin producing ammunition, uniforms, tactical and emergency equipment.
In the Parliamentary Committee for Europe and Foreign Affairs, during discussions on the draft law "On the import, export and transit of firearms, their main components and ammunition", Minister of Defense Pirro Vengu stated that the first "Made in Albania" products will begin this year, while negotiations with the Italian giant Fincantieri for the production and repair of ships are being concluded.
"We are at the end of negotiations with Fincantieri for the reconstruction of the Pashalimani shipyard in cooperation with the Italian giant, to be able not only to produce our ships, not only to maintain them, but also to produce and repair equipment for the needs of our allies. We expect the first Made in Albania products for 3 of the sub-products I mentioned, tactical and emergency equipment, uniforms and ammunition, the first production to begin this year. We have already entered the phase where we want to ensure a sustainable supply chain for all sub-products in order to be in compliance with NATO standards ," said Vengu.
He stated that 6 contracts have been signed with private operators for the production of ammunition and other necessary equipment.
"We currently have 6 contracts signed for the creation of 6 joint state-private companies through the KAYO company and 6 private operators. The 6 contracts provide for the production of ammunition, personal tools and equipment, uniforms, light weapons, drones, anti-drone systems and civil emergency vehicles ," the Minister emphasized.
Currently, the Ministry of Defense is conducting the 2026 defense strategic review, a document that stems from Albania's commitments at the NATO summit, the defense budget and the industry as innovation. Vengu stated that our strategy needs to be repositioned in several aspects.
