Roads, camera monitoring - Rules for intelligent traffic systems ready, real-time situation information

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has approved the guideline that determines how intelligent transportation systems will be implemented throughout the country's road network.
The document foresees the creation and operation of these services for real-time traffic information, multimodal travel, early warning systems, eCall, which is the automatic emergency call from vehicles, as well as safe parking services for commercial vehicles. Road and traffic data will be made accessible to the public and operators through the National Access Point, administered by the Albanian Road Authority.
The document establishes new obligations for public institutions and private operators to update, share and standardize data on the road network, traffic, incidents and transport infrastructure. The directive also emphasizes the protection of personal data, requiring that information collected by intelligent systems be anonymized or pseudonymized, in accordance with applicable legislation.
The directive aims to bring our country closer to European Union standards for modern traffic management and increased road safety. Meanwhile, its adoption comes after the annual report of the Transport Community, which estimated that in the field of intelligent transport systems, Albania has reached an implementation level of 44%. According to this report, the National Traffic Monitoring Center has been built and equipped, while works continue for the installation of cameras and intelligent transport systems along about 200 kilometers of the main road network.
