Albania, under the Asian "wheels" - 66 thousand new cars, Gjirokastra

If there's one thing Albanians don't seem to negotiate, it's their desire for cars, and as it turns out, Korean cars too. According to the latest data from the General Directorate of Road Transport Services, a whopping 66,521 new vehicles have been registered in Albania in just 8 months.

Cars make up the core of this "road flow" with 54,624 registrations, while the rest includes everything from motorcycles and tractors, to trucks and transport vehicles, bringing a mosaic of 31 types of vehicles and 603 different brands.

The "busiest" month for registrations was precisely July, not only for the high temperatures, but also for the record number of vehicles registered, over 10 thousand. On the other side of the coin, February proved to be more economical, with "only" 6 thousand registrations.

In the most motorized district track, Tirana leaves all rivals behind, registering 27,870 vehicles in this period alone. Durrës follows closely with 10,348, while Gjirokastra “brakes” last, with a modest number of 805 registered vehicles.

But who owns these assets?
Figures show that Albanians remain loyal to individual ownership, with 77.5% of registrations coming from ordinary citizens, while only 22.5% are from businesses or other entities.

A total of 14,000 vehicles registered come from Korea, reflecting a significant increase in the reliability and popularity of brands such as Hyundai and Kia.
Italy and Germany are almost equal, with a small difference of around 300 vehicles, while Switzerland and the USA complete the top five, with over 5,000 vehicles each.

All of these figures are indicative of a rapidly growing vehicle fleet, but also of a country that is increasingly seeking comfort, mobility, and perhaps even street style.
