How many visitors preferred hotels last year? The northern region significantly increases the number of visitors in December

The Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) has recently published official data on the performance of accommodation structures in the country, both for the month of December and for the entire year 2025, confirming a significant increase in tourist activity in Albania.
According to statistics, a total of 4.2 million visitors to accommodation facilities were registered during 2025, a figure that includes overnight stays in hotels and similar units. Of this total, around 3 million were non-resident visitors, while 1.2 million were domestic.
December with significant increase in visitors
December 2025 turned out to be a particularly positive month for accommodation facilities. The total number of visitors increased by 27.2% compared to the same period a year earlier. The most significant increase was recorded among non-resident visitors, by 47.6%, while resident visitors increased by 3.8%.
Overnight stays have also followed the same positive trend. In total, they increased by 26.2%. Overnight stays by foreign visitors increased by 39.2%, while those by residents increased by 8.7%. Statistics that not only show an increase in the number of tourists, but also longer stays in the country.
Another important indicator is the expansion of interest in non-coastal areas. Non-resident visitors increased by 37.2% in these areas, as well as in hotels and similar accommodations, reflecting a more balanced distribution of tourism beyond the summer season and traditional coastal areas. Meanwhile, in December, the northern region shows a high number of visitors compared to other months, where it is the region with the lowest number of tourists.
Where did the tourists come from?
According to data for December 2025, the majority of non-resident visitors who stayed in Albania came from Italy (25%), Kosovo (16%) and Germany (6%). France and the United States of America contributed 4% each, while 45% of visitors were from other countries.
These figures reflect an increase in inbound tourism from key markets in the region and Europe, as well as growing interest from more distant markets.
Hotel room occupancy rate increases
Another positive indicator is the hotel room occupancy rate, which in December 2025 reached 20.4%, compared to 18.1% in December 2024. This increase confirms the improvement in the performance of the hotel sector and the gradual expansion of the tourist season even in the winter months.
