Charging stations for electric cars - Two projects for clean transportation, infrastructure for alternative fuels

The Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community has launched two new regional projects, aiming to accelerate the transition towards cleaner transport and strengthen cooperation between authorities in the Western Balkan countries, including Albania.
The first project is related to the region’s alignment with the European Union’s rules on alternative fuels infrastructure. The 2024 regulation sets clear targets for the construction of charging stations for electric vehicles, hydrogen supply and other forms of clean fuels along the main transport corridors. For the Western Balkans, the project will support the drafting of legislation in line with EU standards, the preparation of plans for charging and supply networks, as well as coordination between public authorities, the private sector and experts in the field. The ultimate objective is to create an interconnected network of clean transport infrastructure that works across borders and supports daily travel and regional trade.
Meanwhile, the second project launched is Phase II of the Electronic Register of Road Transport Undertakings in the Western Balkans. This phase focuses on building the digital system, which will be fully compliant with the European Register of Road Transport Undertakings.
The common platform will enable authorities to securely exchange information on licensed road transport operators, increasing transparency, trust and effective oversight of the sector.
