Kosovo Assembly commemorates 18th anniversary of independence - Osmani: We bow

With a solemn session, the Assembly of Kosovo commemorated the 18th anniversary of the declaration of independence. A special symbolism of this session was the placement of the KLA logo on the rostrum of the Assembly. In her speech, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, thanked the allies, but also the citizens who gave their lives for the liberation of the country.

"Today, with the deepest respect, we bow before those who fell on this day, so that Kosovo could be a Republic. At the foundations of our state lies the vision of the historic President Ibrahim Rugova, the architect of independence, and with wisdom, patience and vision, with unwavering faith in the dignity of our people, he led Kosovo in the most difficult times."

The KLA is the greatest ideal that has honored Albanians throughout the centuries. The war was always just, pure and necessary. Any attempt to tarnish or relativize the victim with the aggressor is unjust and historically untrue. The liberators of Kosovo who are in The Hague today stood up for freedom, dignity and the right to live freely in their homeland. Any attempt to equate our liberation war with the genocidal crimes of Serbia not only undermines justice, but also seriously damages the foundations of peace. The KLA war was our strongest pillar of resistance and hope. Today, more than ever, we have a duty to stand together. Above every difference, there is a common responsibility to protect this state that is the result of a centuries-old sacrifice. By protecting the truth, we protect our statehood. Each of them left their mark in body, soul and memory on the state that we enjoy today ", said Osmani, among other things.

The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, was also present at this session of the Kosovo Assembly, and he praised the role of intellectuals and fighters for independence.

"The Republic of Kosovo is an irreversible reality, a sovereign state, today it is the place where freedom inspires. Kosovo is a young state in years, but with deep roots of contributions and sacrifices. It walks with confident steps towards the future, without forgetting the foundations with which it was built, the intellectuals and fighters. They fought with great ideals, freedom, their rights, Albanian national identity and survival. This people has shown that it is resilient and invincible. Kosovo was lucky to have them, raised them, believed in them, and keeps them as they deserve, inspiring symbols of the Republic of Kosovo ," said Begaj.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, the Speaker of the Parliament, as well as leaders of political parties also addressed this session.
