"Albania has left the region behind" - Rama: We are the country with the highest GDP growth in the Balkans
Prime Minister and Socialist Party leader Edi Rama, during a meeting with residents of the city of Korça, shared some of the main achievements of his government from 2013 to date.
"We are not competing with Germany, but with the countries of the region. We were in last place and if we look at it now, the growth of Albania's Gross Domestic Product has been higher than that of the countries of the region. Per capita income has been 3,300 euros and is projected to reach 15 thousand euros."
Prime Minister Rama also focused on the country's public debt, saying that the situation was worse than it initially seemed.
"Public debt was apparently 70%, but in fact it was much higher due to the management of funds by the previous government. Bad loans in banks were at 24% before we took power, while today they have decreased to 4.2%, which is a normal level."
The head of government also spoke about several other economic indicators during the conversation with residents, including the reduction in income inequality from 7.5% to 4.9% and the reduction in the unemployment rate from 17.5% to 8.8%.
