Albania opens the last chapter of negotiations with the EU

Albania has opened today the last Group Chapter of negotiations with the EU. After the delegation meeting, Prime Minister Edi Rama, European Union Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, which holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU, Marie Bjerre, appeared at a press conference.

Marta Kos in her speech said that "today is a special day, not only for Albania, which closes or opens the group chapters, but also for the EU. Because today shows that the EU shows that it offers results and we can rely on Albania for the future. This success would not have been possible without the unwavering political commitment of Albania and the strong commitment of all member states to support Albania's progress.

We are committed to bringing Albania into the EU. Albania is the best example of the transformative power of enlargement. Opening all the chapters is an extraordinary success, but closing them is the real price. Your success will be determined by how well and how quickly you adopt and implement European legislation. Now is the time to accelerate.”

While, Prime Minister Edi Rama, stated that "I believe that this whole journey made us stronger, made us more aware and more mature. Here we are today, with what was just a dream just a year ago. Now it is a work plan that we must work on in our daily lives. I want to thank Maria and Marta with all my heart. Maria for transforming the words of the presidency into deeds and Marta who is a champion of the integration process of Albania.

I am absolutely inspired by all these months and by the strong support that the European enlargement process is receiving. Let us do everything in our power to move forward with the same intensity, discipline, so that this joint process that we are building stone by stone with our partners, does not stop. Today, Albania emerges with pride from this first phase, and even with an even greater sense of responsibility. We do not represent political parties or political views here, but we represent an entire nation that supports the EU and EU membership like no other. More than 90% of our citizens. I would like to add that both the hard and the soft way that we have faced taught us a very important thing: Never take anything for granted in Brussels.
