Tourism "explodes", Albania leads Europe in flights/ 165% increase, fastest growing sector in the country
Albania is gaining ground in tourism, becoming one of the most sought-after destinations. One of the main factors is the entry of low-cost airlines into the market, which has brought a significant increase in flights to the country. Investments in infrastructure, international promotion and the expansion of the tourist season have significantly increased Albania's visitor numbers. According to Eurostat data, in September 2025, commercial flights increased by 165.7% compared to the pre-pandemic period, placing Albania at the top of Europe for the highest growth rate.
Even compared to September 2024, the annual growth is positive, around 3%. During the first nine months of 2025, the number of commercial flights reached around 52,800, with approximately 7,000 flights in September alone.
In the same period, the Ministry of Tourism reports over 10.2 million visitors, an increase of 6% compared to the previous year, confirming the sustainable trend and development of the sector. Referring to official data from the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), accommodation structures in Albania have recorded a significant increase in the number of visitors and overnight stays during the month of August 2025, compared to the same month of 2024. During this month, the total number of visitors who stayed in accommodation structures increased by 35.1%. Non-resident (foreign) visitors recorded an increase of 40.6%, while resident (domestic) visitors increased by 21.6%.
This growth shows a stable trend of inbound tourism development and the growing interest of foreign tourists in Albanian destinations.
