Fires "break out", but properties are uninsured/ AMF: About 2.4% less gross written premiums in the first half of the year
Despite the fact that in recent months there has been a spread of fires throughout the country, often endangering people's lives, homes or agricultural land, Albanians continue to not pay much for insurance, while compensation from insurance companies remains low.
The latest data from the Financial Supervisory Authority shows that gross written premiums from fire, natural disasters and other property damage insurance fell by 2.4%. In total, insurance companies have collected almost 1.7 billion lek from property insurance policies.
Although there is a decline in gross written premiums, the number of insurance contracts has increased. This means that there has been some awareness of insuring property against fire, but less has been paid in this regard.
The number of insurance contracts for fire and other property damage insurance has reached over 31 thousand, about 9.3% more than in the January-June period last year.
Meanwhile, insurance against fire, natural disasters and other property damage accounts for only 14.7% of total non-life insurance.
As for the damages, how much of them have been covered by insurance companies?
In the first half of the year, insurance companies have covered 221 million lek in property damage, damage caused mainly by fire and other natural disasters. Compared to the first half of last year, we have a 44% decrease in claims paid by these companies.
According to the European Forest Fire Information System, since the beginning of the year, the total number of fires has reached 59, while over 29 thousand hectares of land have been burned.
