"Safe Stay in Albania" - Border Police increases measures at Rinas Airport for the tourist season
"Mother Teresa" International Airport, as the main air gateway of Albania, is preparing for a summer season with a high influx of travelers. Under the motto "Safe Stay in Albania", the structures of the State Police and the Local Directorate for Border and Migration in Tirana have intensified measures to guarantee security and improve the border crossing experience for citizens and tourists.
The Minister of Interior, Ervin Hoxha, conducted an inspection of the airport premises, where he was introduced to the organization and capacities established for the tourist season.
"Albania is experiencing a tourist boom. Last year, over 12 million tourists were registered and during the entire summer season, no criminal incidents were recorded against them. This is an indicator of the security standards that we have built and that we are constantly improving. Automatic document control gates (E-Gates) are a key element in facilitating movement and providing a faster service for travelers, while passport control requires special attention and care to maintain the balance between efficiency and security," said Hoxha.
For her part, the head of the Tirana Local Directorate for Border and Migration, Silvana Sulaj, announced that additional measures have been taken to cope with the increasing influx.
"We have added about 100 Border Police officers to Rinas, reinforcing the presence at every entry and exit point. Border controls have been intensified and in the first quarter of this year alone there has been a 10% increase in the number of passengers compared to the same period in 2024. More than 50% of the passengers accepted have been foreigners, which clearly shows the increase in international interest in our country, " Sulaj said.
"Safe Stay in Albania" aims not only to maintain order and security, but also to increase the quality of service for all those who choose to visit Albania.
