European Child Guarantee/ Rama: We are increasing funding for 16 thousand children with special needs!
Prime Minister Edi Rama participated today in the regional conference on "Accelerating Childcare Reforms towards European Union Membership", which was organized in Tirana with representatives from the Western Balkan countries: Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo.
Rama emphasized that this program aims to ensure the provision of healthy food, continuous improvement of access to health services, adequate housing conditions, the development of protection programs dedicated to children, the improvement of social conditions for children with special needs, and overall to increase social awareness of children's rights.
"All of these are key points of the European Child Guarantee and in function of these points, the EU has also defined special funding that helps member states to follow the predetermined tracks through the European Guarantee document and to implement concrete measures to reduce child poverty," he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted that this program aims to narrow the gap that is extremely worrying throughout the European space, especially as a result of the blow inflicted by the pandemic a few years ago.
"Here, of course, special EU funding is related to the active involvement of national governments in partnership with non-governmental organizations and the improvement of educational, social and health infrastructure, as well as support programs for parents," said Rama.
"Our aspect of financing but also of organization and interaction with other partners is to address the situation of 16 thousand children with special abilities who are beneficiaries of other support schemes. But who at this stage and in the conditions when our economic and financial opportunities increase, deserve an increase in support from our side," he concluded.
