How much money did we deposit through ATMs? - BoS: 13.6 billion lekë in just 3 months. ATMs with this function are also being added
Albanians are not only withdrawing more money from ATMs, but they are also choosing to deposit more money through ATMs than at physical bank counters. According to data published by the Bank of Albania, 31% more deposits were made in the first quarter of 2025 than in the first quarter of 2024.
In other words, over 71 thousand more deposits were made during this period, bringing the total number to 300 thousand. In March, more money was deposited, while in February, although fewer deposits were made in number compared to January, the amount was higher.
But what is the actual amount of money deposited in ATMs?
In the first 3 months of this year, 13.6 billion lek were deposited in ATMs. Official statistics indicate an increase of 21.5% compared to the same period last year.
Not all ATMs also serve as cash deposits. Some banks only offer ATMs that are designed for cash withdrawals and not for cash deposits. As a result, to transfer money to their checking account or to pay off credit card bills, citizens are forced to visit physical bank branches.
ATM deposits can be made to an account with a debit or credit card. To make cash deposits with a card, the currency of the account to which the card is linked must usually be respected. Lek currency cards accept deposits only in lek, while euro currency cards accept deposits only in euros. However, some banks make it possible to convert the amount deposited in lek to the account currency at the daily exchange rate.
Banks have a maximum number of banknote denominations for deposit and have daily, weekly, or monthly limits on the amount of money that can be deposited.
Currently, there are 1064 ATMs in Albania, of which only 408 also have the function of depositing money.
