How much does it cost to get certified for Europe? - Pilku: Production and processing standards, one of the challenges of the EU

Production and processing standards are becoming increasingly crucial for agricultural businesses targeting the European market.
Product certification is considered one of the basic conditions for export and for increasing competitiveness. According to experts in the field, the certification process is divided into several categories, starting from minimum requirements, to international standards that open the doors to higher value markets.
"Now the standards of production and processing are one of the challenges of European integration. So the certifications are divided into two categories, certifications related to primary agricultural production, which mainly farmers must be equipped with the Phytosanitary certificate, which is the minimalist required by the European Union, while to benefit from good markets, from markets with added value, it is automatically mandatory to have the GLOBAL GAP and BRCGS certification ," says Ilir Pilku. Consultant.
But how much does certification cost a business to compete in the European market?
"If we talk about agricultural production businesses, they must at least have a phytosanitary certificate, because it is offered free of charge by the Ministry of Agriculture through regional directorates, while the certificate, or standard that they must meet to penetrate supermarkets and the best elite markets, is GLOBAL GAP and BRC, both of which come in one package. They cost a relatively high 3,500-4,000 euros per entity and are valid for one year and can include all the crops they cultivate."
This investment, according to specialists, turns into concrete opportunities for expansion into European markets and increased product value.
