Map of bank savings in Albania - Tirana "unrivaled", holds almost half

Tirana continues to convincingly lead the list of regions with the highest level of bank savings, while Lezha, Shkodra, Elbasan and Korça remain among the regions with the lowest deposits.

The latest data from the Bank of Albania shows that savings are mainly concentrated in large urban centers, with clear differences between regions. At the same time, the way in which citizens and businesses keep money in banks has also changed, with a more noticeable increase in deposits in lek during 2025, while the euro continues to maintain a significant weight, especially in regions with higher economic activity.

The Tirana region remains unrivaled at the top of the savings list. At the end of 2025 alone, deposits in Tirana reached almost 892 billion lekë, or almost half of the national total. Compared to the beginning of 2024, Tirana has added over 120 billion lekë in deposits, reflecting the concentration of economic activity, wages and businesses.

After Tirana comes Durrës, with nearly 131 billion lek deposits, followed by Vlora and Fier, which show steady growth throughout the period 2024–2025. On the other side of the table, the districts with the lowest level of savings remain Lezha, Shkodra, Elbasan and Korça, where deposits are significantly smaller, but still gradually increasing from a year ago.

Regarding the way savings are held, foreign currency, mainly euros, continues to have a large weight, especially in Tirana, Durrës and tourist areas such as Vlora. However, a strengthening of deposits in lek is observed during 2025. At the national level, deposits in lek have grown faster than those in foreign currency, a signal that citizens and businesses are trusting the local currency more and are avoiding exchange rate risk.

At the end of 2025, deposits in lek exceed 425 billion lek in Tirana alone, while regions such as Durrës, Fier and Vlora also record a significant increase in savings in the local currency.
