How much fuel did Albanians consume in 2025? - 741 thousand tons were cleared. Imports of coffee and cigarettes increase, beer decreases

Fuel imports reached record levels during 2025, with a total of around 741 thousand tons cleared, the highest figure achieved in the last 5 years.
Fuel is among the excise products that are experiencing high consumption and, as a result, continuously increasing imports, and this is beyond the fact that the import of electric vehicles has also increased, both for personal use and by businesses.
Official figures from the Ministry of Finance show that 740.8 thousand tons of fuel were cleared in 2025, a significant increase compared to 2024, where imports were recorded at approximately 657.5 thousand tons, thus increasing by 83.3 thousand tons. If we were to compare it with 2021, the increase is approximately 130 tons. This consumption has been influenced by the influx of tourism in the country, which brings higher vehicle traffic, but also the movements made by Albanian citizens themselves, trying to take advantage of weekends or holidays.
On the other hand, the amount of coffee imported and consumed increased significantly in 2025, registering 10,259 tons, making it the highest figure in the last 5 years. Compared to 2024, the increase is 1,578 tons.
The same trend has been observed with cigarettes. During 2025, 3,636 tons of cigarettes were imported, registering the highest quantity in 5 years. The figures show that Albanian citizens are not giving up smoking despite the fact that the prices of packages are increasing significantly every year and also the weight in their direct annual expenses.
As for beer, it is the only product among excise goods that has experienced a decrease in imports in 2025, compared to the previous year, where 56.6 thousand tons went for consumption out of 59.3 thousand tons imported in the same period of the previous year. However, compared to previous years, the import of this product has resulted in an increase.
Total excise revenue, for the period January-December 2025, was realized in the amount of 69.6 billion lek, 6.2 billion lek or 9.7% more than the same period in 2024. These indicators reflect higher economic activity and broader consumption in the market.
