Business growth, law on collective financing is being prepared - Hirtric: EBRD has over 60% of its investments in private enterprises

Global Entrepreneurship Week continues with panel discussions on entrepreneurship or start-up development. In today's panel, the focus was on unlocking capital for the growth of start-ups in Albania.
During her speech, Edliora Dashi, who is a consultant in the finance, competitiveness and innovation sector at the World Bank, stated that work is currently underway to draft a law that focuses on crowdfunding, or so-called collective or group financing.
“Since 2024, we have been working on drafting a law that converges and transposes the European regulation on crowdfunding which was approved in 2020, and this law aims to complete the regulatory framework, and bring a new line of financing for start-ups and micro, small and medium-sized businesses. This is part of Chapter 9 on financial services. This law will bring three benefits to the Albanian market. First, it will open a new financing path for businesses, second, it will create a new class of investors for Albania and there should be a way of investing for ordinary people as well, and third, it will have the opportunity to create stronger international ties, because we think that the diaspora is also a very good source of investment.”
On the other hand, the EBRD representative emphasized that the focus of EBRD operations is on small, micro and medium-sized enterprises, in green investments, innovation, etc.
"The EBRD has in its mandate a special focus on supporting the enterprises where we operate. Over 60% of our investments are from private enterprises, whether from partner banks or direct EBRD investments. At the EBRD, the green investment part, the innovation part, has been in our lines of operations for years."
