The number of deregistered vehicles increases/ January-June, over 4,800 old

Deregistrations of vehicles that do not meet safety standards in the country have increased. According to data from the General Directorate of Road Transport Services, during the period January-June 2026, 4 thousand 880 vehicles were definitively deregistered, with an average age of 22 years. Compared to the same period last year, their number has increased by 28.5%.

According to the DPSHTRR, the main reasons for deregistration are related to failure to meet safety standards, inadequate technical condition, depreciation and high consumption of vehicles.

Meanwhile, vehicle technical inspections have continued at all technical inspection centers in the country. Tirana holds the main weight of testing, with 73,224 vehicles inspected, or 36.4% of the national total.

After Tirana, Durrës is ranked with 27,950 controls, Fier with 17,639 and Elbasan with 13,128 vehicles tested.

Furthermore, 12,446 technical inspections were carried out in Shkodra, 10,099 in Laç, while around 9 to 10,000 vehicles were tested in Berat, Vlora and Korça.

The lowest number of checks was recorded in Dibër, Saranda, Kukës and Gjirokastër, where around 4 to 5 thousand vehicles were tested each.

Technical inspection and removal of depreciated vehicles from circulation remain important measures for increasing road safety and improving the standards of the vehicle fleet in the country.
