Solar energy grows - Power plants enter production, in January-April they generated 6.6% of the total
Energy produced by photovoltaic plants increased during the first 4 months of the year, compared to the same period a year earlier.
According to data from the Energy Regulatory Authority, in total, free market plants, those with contracts with the Free Market Supplier, and the Karavasta Power Plant produced 194,458 mWh or 6.6% of the total electricity generated in the country. Last year, for the period January - April, 103,988 mWh of energy was generated from solar plants, which accounted for 3.35% of total energy.
Meanwhile, the share of solar energy is expected to increase further, as a number of projects have already advanced with the procedures for obtaining the necessary permits and starting the construction of power plants on the ground. In the first 4 months of this year alone, the Energy Regulatory Authority has licensed 10 companies for small plants up to 3 MW, with a total projected installed capacity of 21 MW, as well as one large 100 MW plant.
In previous years, a number of companies have been licensed to produce solar energy, bringing the total number of licensed companies in this activity to 64, with projects totaling around 735 MW. This includes plants that are already in production. However, private investor interest in this venture remains high, with many applications submitted to the relevant authorities.
