Salaries in tourism, from 55 thousand to 140 thousand lek! - DPT: In-depth checks on businesses that pay less than the indicative minimum
Businesses in the tourism sector that pay employees less than the indicative salary determined by the General Directorate of Taxes will be subject to a more in-depth tax audit.
The General Directorate of Taxes has issued an official announcement informing all taxpayers in the tourism sector that, within the framework of the implementation of the tourism sector plan and the increase in social security payments in order to increase pensions, the Tax Administration will analyze the salaries of employees declared on the payroll.
As a result of underreporting of salaries by businesses, but not only that, the pension scheme is in a mess. Currently, the contributor-beneficiary ratio is 1.17 to 1. So for every pensioner, today only 1.17 employees contribute.
To assess the risk of taxpayers avoiding the real payment of employee salaries, the analysis will have as a comparative element the indicative salaries of professions in the tourism sector.
The list published by the General Directorate of Taxes provides indicative salaries for professions such as waiter, manager, guard, cleaner, cook, worker and others. The lowest salary is 55,000 lek for a parking guard and ranges up to 70,000 or 80,000 for waiters, 60,000 for workers or cleaners, 90,000 or 110,000 for managers, 140,000 for cooks or head chefs, etc.
Any taxpayer whose declared employee's salary, for the above-mentioned professions or similar ones, is below the indicative salary level, will be considered at risk and will be subject to in-depth verifications.
So, if a waiter is paid less than 70,000 lek per month by a business operating in the tourism sector, this business has a higher risk of penalties.
