Albanians "leave" Montenegro for vacations - Operators: Accommodation has become more expensive, vacationers choose Greece
Montenegro is being preferred less and less by Albanians, and not just for holidays this tourist season.
The increase in VAT from 7% to 15% for hotel accommodation has increased prices, negatively affecting tourist flows. At the beginning of this year, the number of overnight stays decreased by 10%.
"In fact, there has been a change because prices have increased. The problem is that in Montenegro there is no all-inclusive concept, so only accommodation and sleeping are offered, without any other additional services. As a result, our clients only stay 2-3 days and not longer, which has influenced the decline in overnight stays, " said Kristina Gjinaj, a tour operator.
Meanwhile, in the region, according to data from Airbnb, along the coastline from Croatia to Greece, prices have increased compared to a year ago.
In Croatia, prices for accommodation listed on Airbnb range from $300-400 to $900 per night near the beach. Montenegro, Albania and Greece follow with similar prices.
But for vacations, Albanians seem to have chosen Greece.
"From Greece we have areas very close to Albania and, avoiding flights that have high prices during the summer season, Albanians choose to travel with their cars. The most preferred area remains that of Corfu ," said Klodina Çobo, a tour operator.
According to data from the Institute of Statistics, during the three months of summer last year, around 2.2 million Albanians traveled abroad, most of whom traveled for vacation.
