Air conditioners, the "salvation" from the heat? - "Boom" of imports, over 3 billion lek in 5 months
As we face the hot days of summer, the fastest and most used solution by citizens is air conditioners. Data provided by the General Directorate of Customs shows that in the first 5 months of the year alone, air conditioners worth 3 billion and 47 million lek were imported.
Meanwhile, in May alone, 952 million lek of air conditioners were imported. But translated into weight, customs calculate that around 3.8 million kg of air conditioners were imported for the period January-May of this year.
Compared to the same period last year, imports have increased by 411.6 million lekë, which indicates an increase in demand for these equipment. While in weight, they are about 840 thousand kg more than in the first 5 months of last year.
But how do the prices of air conditioners vary? According to a survey conducted by Scan TV, many home appliance stores have started advertising discounts, which range from 20%-50% off. While prices range from 22 thousand lek for 12,000 BTU air conditioners, up to 120,000 for 24,000 BTU air conditioners.
Currently, Albania does not have a proper industry for the production of air conditioners, but their supply is operated through several companies that import them. While one of the countries that we import the most air conditioners from remains China.
