Israel launches massive attack on Iran, Tehran responds with drones
Israel has carried out attacks on the Iranian capital, Tehran, targeting the country's nuclear program. The attacks killed several senior military officials, as well as nuclear scientists. Iran has responded by launching at least 100 drones toward Israel.
IDF spokeswoman Brigadier General Effie Defrin said Israel is working to intercept the drones, while a state of emergency has been declared.
Israel's strikes on Iran, which took place late Thursday into Friday morning, killed Hossein Salami, the head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as well as the chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces. Two senior nuclear scientists were also killed, according to Iranian state media.
Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu said the attacks were a "military operation aimed at repelling the Iranian threat to Israel's survival", claiming that "if not stopped, Iran could produce a nuclear weapon in a very short time".
