Rama: Balluk's suspension was an absurd measure, it affected the institutional function

The leader of the Socialist Party, who is also Prime Minister Edi Rama, stated today at the meeting of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, from the Presidency of the Assembly, that the request to restrict Balluk's freedom is based on a suspicion of "inequality in public tenders."
"Today we are here to publicly announce our position regarding the special prosecutor's request to authorize the restriction of Belinda Balluku's freedom ," Rama said.
According to him, an accusation has been filed against Balluk related to a suspicion of "inequality in public tenders", dating back several years.
"A charge was filed against her last year, not for theft, not for corruption or anything else related to a crime scene or flagrante delicto in the commission of a serious criminal offense, but only for the reasonable suspicion that, in her capacity as former Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, she committed the criminal offense of 'inequality in public tenders', 6 years ago, based on some messages found years later on the cell phone of a former director," Rama said.
The Prime Minister stated that this fact, according to him, was still uninvestigated at the moment when the measure of suspension from duty was taken.
"On this fact, still completely uninvestigated at the time, but as usual previously served through couriers who enter and exit the train station kitchen, like dog food in the 700 pots of the political and media trial, the suspension of the member of the government cabinet was initially decided with an incomprehensible rush by the prosecutor and the judge of the preliminary hearing," he said.
Rama described this measure as unjustified, emphasizing that it affected the institutional function.
"An absurd measure that, as we have explained before, effectively suspended the function, not just the person. That is why a stupidity of this nature has never happened anywhere else in the world ," he said.
Rama emphasized that, following the Constitutional Court's decision to suspend the measure and review the case on its merits, another request was submitted by the prosecution.
"Then, quite unexpectedly, without waiting for the conclusion of the process we opened at the Constitutional Court for intolerable interference in the powers of the executive branch, as soon as the court suspended the suspension measure and declared that it would proceed to the merits of the case, the second twist came: the request that we are discussing today ," said Rama.
He added that the discussion in the Assembly is based on the constitutional competence of the parliament for such cases. "And we discuss it with the right that the Constitution of the Republic of Albania gives us to authorize or not the arrest of a deputy, which I will talk about specifically a little later ," Rama concluded.
