The government approved the 11.7 million euro loan for the Tirana-Rinas-Durrës railway

At its meeting today, the government approved the loan for the Tirana-Durres railway with a connection to Rinas International Airport. The financing to be received from the EBRD will be used for the electrification of this important railway line, the first to be put into operation, after many years of demolition of this infrastructure.
According to Minister Enea Karakaçi, who spoke to the media after the government meeting, this loan is 11.7 million euros and it is added to a grant of 12 million euros that will be used for this purpose. The Minister assessed this project as very important for the infrastructure of our country.

APPROVAL, IN PRINCIPLE, OF THE LOAN AGREEMENT, BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF ALBANIA AND THE EUROPEAN BANK FOR RECONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT, FOR THE ALBANIAN RAILWAYS – REHABILITATION OF THE TIRANA-DURRËS RAILWAY LINE AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE RAILWAY CONNECTION WITH TIRANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: PROJECT EXTENSION
In support of Article 100 of the Constitution and Article 10 of Law No. 43/2016, “On International Agreements in the Republic of Albania”, as amended, upon the proposal of the Minister of Finance, the Council of Ministers
DECIDED:
Approval, in principle, of the loan agreement between the Republic of Albania and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, for Albanian railways - rehabilitation of the Tirana-Durres railway line and construction of the railway connection with Tirana International Airport: expansion of the project, according to the text attached to this decision.
This decision takes effect immediately.
