Motor insurance premiums and contracts - Significant growth in the first half of 2025
According to official INSTAT data, the motor insurance sector in the country has recorded significant growth in the first half of 2025.
Compulsory motor insurance premiums for the period January-May 2025 amounted to approximately 7532 million lek, an increase of 13.38% compared to the same period a year earlier.
Compulsory motor insurance in Albania (domestic MTPL) recorded a 13.39% increase in gross written premiums in the period January-June 2025. This increase is also accompanied by 7.01% more contracts, compared to January-June 2024.
International “Green Card” insurance also recorded significant growth during this period. The volume of gross written premiums increased by 14.52%, while the number of contracts increased by 11.23%, compared to the same period last year.
Border insurance, which is offered for foreign vehicles entering Albanian territory, also saw growth. Gross written premiums increased by 5.50%, while the number of contracts increased by 3.74%, compared to January-June 2024.
The increases noted reflect a greater interest of citizens and businesses in guaranteeing financial protection through motor insurance.
