"Gateway to the Alps", a massive 100 million euro investment, co-financed with the EIB with a focus on mountain tourism

In Prime Minister Edi Rama's weekly notes, special attention was also paid to the Mountain Package and more specifically to the project that is part of this package and is called the Gateway to the Alps. "The Gateway to the Alps", which constitutes a direct intervention with a massive investment of 100 million euros, co-financed with the European Investment Bank, for the further development of tourism, with a focus on mountain tourism", Rama said. Below is his full statement on this major intervention in tourism.
"In these months, there is talk about the Mountain Package. Of course, when I say there is talk, I mean not only what we say to inform the public and, above all, to inform those who look at Albania from outside and want to invest their savings in the land of their ancestors or in the reconstruction of an old house of their grandparents among the mountains, but also what is said by many who, as always and for everything, distort, deviate and so on. But this is not the content of this note, but what is added to the Mountain Package as a project called "Gateway to the Alps", which constitutes a direct intervention with a massive investment of 100 million euros, co-financed with the European Investment Bank, for the further development of tourism, with a focus on mountain tourism. It is a project that we have been working on for a long time, which aims to better connect the northern areas with each other and with the rest of the country, undoubtedly by creating easy access and sustainable throughout the year. It includes the improvement of road and transport infrastructure, investments in water supply and wastewater management, as well as interventions in urban development and the restoration of that valuable historical heritage that is also in the northern area. While, of course, the project could not be without care to ensure, to guarantee all those wonderful parts of nature that must remain untouched.
This is the integrated approach of a project that does not address just one segment, one aspect, but has a territorial scope and aims, and I believe has all the potential, to give an extra boost to the development of tourism and the economy in the north of the country. I believe that, with this note, I can also extend a special greeting to all those who, whenever the north is mentioned, immediately start talking nonsense about the government that has not done enough for the north, and a very friendly greeting, telling them that what this government has done and will do for the north of the country, has not been done by all the governments taken together. As for those that come after, I do not want to talk, but about all the governments taken together, since Albania has entered the path of freedom-democracy, which we all know how it began, how it continued and everyone sees how it is being transformed in the function of all Albanians and in the function of all Albania.
